Hormagaunts, first little omnomnomers

Not so humble beginnings of my new army - a first wave of Tyranids invasion consisting of 60 hormagaunts. It took me only long months, with yet another relocation to yet another country, to finish the very first part of my new space bugs army :)

Sooo, making long story short - I always wanted to have second army for the 40k, and not another imperium one. Nids have nice models, omnomnomy character, and completely different playstyle than Imperial Guard I have so far.
I bought lots of kits in bulk: Tyranid Swarm + Tyranid Apocalypse Detachment + old Start Collecting (with Swarmlord) + new Start Collecting (with Broodlord) + Tyranid part of Deathstorm box (~2k in points? more?). Having my expearience with batch painting guardsman, I decided to start Nids from small gaunts. Strange choice, but my logic is simple: paint all the cheap in points, annoying stuff first, and than every big beast would quickly add up points to my army.

Dlaczego Tyranidzi? Zawsze chciałem mieć drugą armię do 40k, i to raczej nie imperium. Tyranidzi mają ciekawe modele, interesującą mechanikę i kompletnie inny styl rozgrywki niż Gwardia którą do tej pory grałem wyłączenie.
Zacząłem z grubej rury: kupiłem boksy Tyranid Swarm + Tyranid Apocalypse Detachment + stary Start Collecting (Swarmlord) + nowy Start Collecting (Broodlord) + Tyranidzi z zestawu Deathstorm (~2k punktów? więcej?). Wiadomo, kupisz w hurcie, kupisz jednostkowo taniej. Bazując na tym czego nauczyło mnie malowanie 60+ gwardzistów, postanowiłem małe, nisko punktowe, denerwujące rzeczy pomalować najpierw, żeby potem każdy duży robak szybko dodawał punkty do armii.

Couldn't find a source :( Help?

One of the minuses of Tyranids army is the age of models - every single part has a mold line running through it, and cleaning process is a long and painfull one. One quick photo to show the scale of problem with 60 gaunts :(
Szybkie zdjęcie do pokazania skali problemu :(

60 bodies, 60 legs, 60 heads, 120 arms. I survived the pain.
60 ciałek, 60 nóg, 60 główek, 120 ramion. Ból.

Than came the small scale painting test. I wanted to not only have eye-catching, bright colors, but also to use paints that cover well and with absolutely maximum 2 coats. Different carapace colors:

Two problems that hormagaunts have are:
a) they are nose heavy models, and usually trip forwards,
b) you have 60 models to manually move not only across battlefield, but also from home...
I thought about solving both of them - I embedded magnets (2x3mm) in the bases, and poured some old casting resin that I had lying around. Not necessarily cost effective, but that was available to me.

Dwa problemy z hormagauntami:

The last thing left to do were the bases. Design criteria were simple: quick to make in batches and highlighting the models sitting on them. I decided to go with GW's technical muds (yessss, there are cheaper options), with puddles made of stained Vallejo's Still Water and quickly drybrushed.
Ostatnią rzeczą do zrobienia były podstawki.

Finally, all the little bugs were ready :)
W końcu, wszystkie maluchy były gotowe :)
